about me
Cansen Yilmaz (he/him)
DoP / Director
I grew up in Edmonton, North London until the age of 12, when me my younger brother and mother relocated to a town called Poole near Bournemouth.
Growing up there was wildly different to what I’d known in London, but it allowed me to experience a more social and enjoyable, although quieter teenage years.
I soon grew passionate for media and began making short videos of trips on my mobile phone. Watching my first few videos back gave me an immense feeling of satisfaction that I was able to relive those moments again.
I followed the film route through college and was fortunate enough to study on Bournemouth University’s highly sought after Film Production and Cinematography BA (Hons) course.
I was set up with the right knowledge and network to follow a traditional route into the film industry. Working as a Cam op and DoP in my early years I quickly found my feet in music-based videography, and as I grew fonder of electronic music during university I began to DJ and in my later 20’s produce music too.
I eventually came away from film sets and replaced them with shoots where I could be more free creatively, delivering mostly short form content.
Faster pace, action-based montage shooting became quite common work and more recently I developed a taste for longer single shot videos. The unedited single take nature allows for the action and narrative to really ‘do the talking’, this has definitely become a favoured style of mine.
Over the past 12 years I’ve taken up various roles in lighting and camera departments across different sectors including Features, Shorts, Corporate, Commercial, Live Event, Sports and TV. I’ve worked with 16mm and 35mm film but specialise in branded content and campaigns, music videos, events, food, lifestyle, fashion, sports and festivals.
